Medicare Advantage transportation benefits explained

Original Medicare doesn't cover routine medical transportation, but Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans often do — as a supplemental benefit. Here's how those benefits typically work.

How Medicare Advantage transportation benefits work

Medicare Advantage plans must cover everything Original Medicare covers, but they can add extras. Transportation is one of the most common extras, especially in plans designed for chronically ill members or low-income beneficiaries (D-SNPs and C-SNPs).

What plans typically include

  • Trip count: A set number of one-way trips per year — commonly 24, 36, 48, or 60.
  • Eligible destinations: Plan-approved medical appointments, pharmacies, and sometimes vision/dental.
  • Distance limit: Often 25–50 miles per one-way trip.
  • Booking process: Usually through a designated transportation vendor (Modivcare, MTM, Access2Care, etc.).

How DachiPlus works with Medicare Advantage

DachiPlus is credentialed with several Medicare Advantage transportation vendors. When you call us with your plan information, we verify your benefit and coordinate the booking. If your plan uses a different vendor we don't currently work with, we can either help you book directly with them, or arrange the trip on a private-pay basis with a receipt suitable for plan reimbursement.

What to ask your plan

  • How many trips per year does my plan cover?
  • What destinations are eligible?
  • Is there a distance or per-trip limit?
  • Which transportation vendor do you use?
  • What's the booking process — call, app, or vendor portal?
